5-mile Trail Run

Updated: Jan 22

Sue's Stratford Obelisk Run, Sunday 23 January 2022

09:30am start.

Stratford upon Avon Butterfly Farm.

Approx. 5 miles (8km), 1hrs 15 mins.

This fun, easy paced, RunWithIan Group run is guided by Ian yet the route is inspired by Ian's friend and accomplished Marathoner Sue Stockbridge who lives close to Stratford-upon-Avon.

This multi-surface, sociable run will enliven your senses at any time of year, and, on clear days provides great views of Stratford and the surrounding area.

Starting at The Butterfly Farm we jog slowly North-East along the Tiddington Road taking in one of Stratford's more 'well to do' areas and then head down toward the riverside.

Once in situ, we hopefully encounter some wildlife before crossing over The Avon using The Howard footbridge and navigate West onward toward The Welcome Hotel and on up to The Obelisk nestled on The Clopton Hills for photos and a timely breather.

From here we run South back toward Stratford on undulating grassy (and in winter muddy) terrain and down into Stratford itself picking up the end of The Stratford Canal and into The Theatre Basin utilising the towpath.

We then run over The Tramway Bridge and back to The Butterfly Farm to complete the loop.

Budget for 1hr 15 mins. of running time at approx. 10-12 minute/mile pace.

This run is open to all abilities and serves as a great introduction to running off-road. The focus is on fun and enjoyment.

Non-members cost = £7.50 per person and Run WithIan Annual Members pay nothing.

All bookings are subject to availability.

Trail shoes and appropriate clothing are advised. Bring a change of clothes and some clean shoes for your journey home afterwards and make sure to take in the majesty of Stratford-upon-Avon itself if you have the time after the run.

Non-cancellable. Non-refundable. Terms and conditions apply.

Suggested car parking: Stratford Recreational Grounds Car Park, Stratford-upon-Avon, CV37 7PY. Charges Apply. RingGo App in operation at time of writing (March 2021).
